3 idiots

Aal Izz Well has become synonym for the Movie “3 idiots”. The movie starts ten years after the graduation when two friends or we can say two idiots out of three idiots travel from Delhi to Shimla to Manali to Ladakh in search of their third friend (idiot). The movie moves to and fro in flash back and present day.
Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots have a déjà vu effect with his first film. Boman Irani, is authoritarian principal, similar to the dean depiction from Munnabhai MBBS which is clearer with his hatred towards the disobedient character, Rancho (similar to Sanjay Dutt) who is in love with his daughter (Gracy Singh in Munnabhai & Kareena in 3 Idiots). Sharman’s recovery scene in hospital take you back to the inspiring carom board scene from Munnabhai MBBS. After successfully providing philosophies of ‘Jaadu ki jhappi’ in Munnabhai MBBS and ‘Gandhigiri’ in Lage Raho Munnabhai, Hirani stimulate a new philosophy of ‘Aal izz well’ in 3 Idiots.
There are some gaping holes, such as why the two idiots didn’t ask Javed Jafferi Aamir’s real name. It's hard to believe Rancho's cheery "All izz well" chant when he ties it to a baby's first in-womb kick and later the after delivery scene.
Director Hirani has changed the emotional scene into humour like Poverty and illness may be touchy topics, but if showcased in black and white they become funny. All you need is a mother cribbing about the family’s sad financial condition in black and white, while the paralyzed father lies in bed, and audiences will roll away in their seats. The movie also shows the solution to the problem of men peeing all over the place – Electricity.
The romantic song Zoobie Doobie is one of the most creatively conceptualized numbers since ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahan’ (Dil Chahta Hai).
The performance that stood out in this film belongs to lesser-known LA-based actor Omi Vaidya who stars as the Hindi-challenged Chatur Ramalingam, who deserves credit for the film's funniest scenes on the strength of his expressions and delivery.
The movie touches several academic issues from grading systems, parental pressure, student suicides and coaching to only theoretical knowledge. The Movie teaches you lesson that excellence always creates success. So, never run after the success, let it happen automatically in the life. When your hobby and passion becomes your profession then you will be able to lead up to excellence in the life. Satisfaction, pleasure, joy and love will be the outcome of following passion. Following your passion for years, you will surely become something one day.
The movie is a must watch which has universal appeal for audience. One needs to follow the passion and make it as profession. We need to change the academic system for better practical knowledge than theoretical knowledge.
Even a lion learns to obey his ringmaster. But you call him well-trained and not well-educated.

Rocket Singh

Ranbir Kapoor plays Harpreet Singh Bedi, an optimistic young graduate with passing marks of just 35% lands a sales job in a computer firm run by a boss who sets out of reach targets for his team. His enthusiasm comes off early as he observes security guards being bribed for information on competitor. For his own part, he stays firmly honest, going so far as to file a complaint against a client who wants bribe. That act of honesty, however, is rewarded with a demotion and disrespect in office.

Certain that a business can be run clean, Harpreet sets up his own company within the one he works for, convincing a few of fellow colleagues as partners. Operating sincerely and carefully, this team carefully sets up a flourishing business that ultimately challenges the one they work for.

“Rocket Singh” may or may not be hit among the movie buffs but it surely has a point or two to take away which can help industrialist, especially in India. Not everything is realistic but things which are can actually make a difference.
  • Recruit for talent and aspiration and not for fancy degrees and communication skills. Brilliant people will remain dedicated to the company and work professionally.
  • Don’t under estimate experience just because you have a brilliant idea and have got some sudden triumph. Instead of fighting with experienced people, make them your associates.
  • Make your work environment safe and respectful for everyone from day one.
  • Building faith is the hardest part of business. Do not grow alone. Let your partners and vendors also grow with you.
  • Serve your customers as per their need and not as per your convenience. Put your 100% to your business.
  •  Customers today are much more aware about overall experience than ever. Every deal with your customer is a chance to influence and to turn him into an advertisement for your company.

Ranbir Kapoor has shown a convincing, graceful depiction of Harpreet Singh Bedi. Ranbir adds the little touches that make all the difference: combing the beard, tucking in the turban, lifting the 'kada' further up his arm before dipping his hand into a bucket of wet clothes. He's an actor you can't take your eyes off.

In the end, Rocket Singh is a fresh, sincere film with good purpose. It needs patience to understand it fully, but justify a screening because movies like this are hard to find.

Most important lesson: Take risk. Even Spiderman takes risk.

Rang De Basanti

Jo desh ke kaam na aaye, woh bekaar jawani hai.
It's a thoughtful film about the 'masti', about today's youth and their thoughts for patriotism. This film in fact tell you cannot preach anyone to be a patriotic, it comes from inside. Also show the gray shades of friendship between politician and businessmen. In the first half you will go back to your college days and then in second half back to reality, which is harsh.

The story begins with the young British filmmaker Sue resigning her job and move to India to make a film on the young revolutionaries who impressed her grandfather, a jailor pre-independence in India. In Delhi aided by Sonia, she runs into DJ, Karan, Sukhi, Aslam. All of them are students in Delhi University. Laxman Pandey is a political party activist which is against the western culture, joins them later. Sue hopes to realize her dream of a making a film on Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru or the so called Young Rebel Freedom Fighters of India.

But, contrary to Sue's expectations, the youth have no feelings for their country. India is a washout where corruption is out of control, and nothing can be done to salvage the situation, they believe. They even poke fun at Sue's attempts to make a film, till they come around. As they play the historical characters, their perspective about the present, and their own role in it, changes forever.

Ajay Singh Rathod, a Flight Lieutenant in the Indian Air Force who is Sonia's fiancé, is killed when his fighter crashes. Sonia and her friends investigate and learn that the crash was due to a corrupt defence minister and Karan's father, who had signed a contract exchanging cheap and illegal MiG-21 aircraft spare parts for a personal favour. Angered by the situation, the group and their supporters decide to protest peacefully at India Gate. Police forcefully break up their protest using batons; in the process, Rathod's mother is severely hurt and she slips into a coma. DJ, Karan, Aslam, Sukhi, and Laxman decide that they must imitate the early freedom fighters and resort to violence to achieve justice. As a result, they kill the defence minister to avenge Rathod's death, while Karan murders his father for his corrupt actions. The minister is reported to have been killed by terrorists and is hailed as a martyr by the media. To bring forth their intentions behind the killings, the five of them attempt to reach the public through a radio station. They forcibly take over the All India Radio station premises after having evacuated its employees. Karan goes on air and reveals the truth about the defence minister and his wrongdoings. While still on the air, they are all killed in an ambush by the police and military commandos

The correlation of the British pre independence and the politicians presently in India has been done in the movie. You need to experience it, you need to live it! And then you’ll see that if the villains then were the British, the villains now are in our corrupt System – and it’s a supreme irony that this realisation comes through the efforts of Sue, a
Brit
!

After the release of the movie youth activism took to streets to protest on public interest issues. A direct impact was on the 1999 Jessica Lall Murder Case. A month after the film's release, a court acquitted the main accused because of inefficient prosecution and hostile witnesses. This sparked intense civil protests and media campaigns that sought his re-arrest. Taking cue from the scene in which the protagonists hold a silent, candlelight vigil at India Gate, one such group of demonstrators carried out a similar rally to voice their protest. Another such massive youth activism was seen in the Priyadarshini Mattoo rape and murder case where similar rallies were organized.

One of the message from the movie is that we need to change our self first for the system to change. If we decide to change the system then we need to take the responsibility to change them. The youth need to empower themselves to bring about the change in the country. And we have seen this election that more of youth are coming ahead and trying to bring in change.

One thing that we need to fight is the corruption prevailing in our country. If we take a look corruption has absorbed deep into the roots of the country. The process of change is not easy and its slow, still the youth today is working for the change. The generation is awake now. We are the writers of our own future.
I always believed there were two kinds of men in this world, men who go to their deaths screaming, and men who go to their deaths in silence. Then I met a third kind.

300

HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH! This is what comes into my mind whenever I think of the movie 300. For all those who love to watch epic movies with lots of action in it, I would suggest 300.

The movie takes us back to time when Persian king Xerxes sends his massive army to conquer Greece. The Spartan king Leonidas along with his finest 300 warriors block the narrow passage of Thermopylae where Xerxes intends to reach Sparta. The 300 are accompanied by few Greek warriors combined, the forces manage to slay tens of thousands of Persians and prevent their entry for several days. The battle is a suicide mission, meant to buy time for the rest of the Greek forces to prepare for the invasion.

Why am I going so crazy about this movie? Keeping aside the special effects, this movie teaches about running a business now a day. The story resembles what an entrepreneur often faces when competing against a big corporation. It also offers some insight into what it takes to be an effective leader, inspire employees and create a recognizable brand. And, yes, this film can be ugly, but that's sometimes the nature of the business world.

If we look at management’s functions it consists of the following:

1. Planning

2. Organising

3. Leading

4. Co-ordinating

5. Controlling

6. Staffing

Now let us look at each function one by one and how the movie teaches us about the management.

1. Planning:
Before you run out and start your own business (or war in Leonidas’ case), make sure to formulate a business and marketing plan to improve your chances of success. At the Ephor Temple, Leonidas shares his war plan with the priests and says “We will use our superior fighting skills and the terrain of Greece herself to destroy them…we will block the Persian costal assault by rebuilding the great…wall. From there we will funnel them into the mountain pass we call the Hot Gates. Now, in that narrow corridor, their numbers will count for nothing and wave after wave of Persian attack will smash against Spartan shields. Xerxes losses will be so great, his men so demoralized, he will have no choice but to abandon his campaign.” These shows the kinds of planning you need to have for your business. Every manager should identify the importance of planning and implement it for the success.

2. Organising:
Organising is the act of rearranging elements following one or more rules. Anything is commonly considered organized when it looks like everything has a correct order of placement. This can be seen in the movie when the war starts, the Spartans put themselves in war formations. They repel the attacks with these formations which they organise. The formation in which Spartans fought is quite magnificent.

3. Leading
King Leonidas shows the perfect example of a leader who leads from front. This is how an entrepreneur or a manager should act. Although Leonidas is a warrior, he treats his family and friends as equals. In same way a manager should treat his/her subordinates. When Leonidas suits up and goes to his day job--Destroying enemies with his spear and shield--he's focused on what's best for the business and his employees; in this case, the kingdom and his soldiers. In the war he shows what a true leader is and always keeps his cool, even in the time of difficult situations. Like a wise leader inspires trust and doesn’t rely on control.

4. Co-ordinating
Coordination is the act of coordinating, making different people or things work together for a goal or effect. The final goal for the 300 Spartans was to stop the Persians for a while so as to buy time for the Spartan army for preparation of war. Everyone from the army is clear about the role that they need to play in war. The kind of team work showed by the Spartans helps them in stopping the Persian army for 3 days. The co-ordination between the Spartans and the Greek soldiers can be seen in the fight scene with the immortals. The managers should co-ordinate the team well so as to show high-quality results.

5. Controlling
The CEO of the company needs to have control on all the functions of the company so that he can take decisions in the interest of the company. Control is required when there are some variations with standard. King Leonidas did everything in his power in the interest of Sparta (company). The 300 spartans held the Persians for 3 days just for the fact that they fought with standards. A manager needs to have control over his subordinates for eminence work.

6. Staffing
Having passion alone isn’t a sufficient reason to hire a potential employee. Look to see if the applicant’s skill set will fit into your organization or compliment your existing staff. When Ephialtes requests to join the Spartan army, Leonidas is forced to explain that the Spartan phalanx requires that “We fight as a single impenetrable unit. That is the source of our strength. Each Spartan protects the man to his left, thigh to neck with a shield. A single weak point and the phalanx shatters”. As a good hiring manager, Leonidas recognizes that Ephialtes’ inability to raise his left arm above his shoulder would jeopardize his entire organization and the effectiveness of their strategy. Sometimes doing what’s best for your company means having the ability to say “no”.

CAST AWAY

Now this is a Great Adventure Movie, your “Cast Away” on an Island. You start your first fire. Realizing that you must SURVIVE in order to be there the next day, week or month in order to be rescued. Tom Hanks plays Chuck Noland, with his formerly spoiled lifestyle, now left to fend for himself.

Chuck Noland, a FedEx guy who goes from place to place troubleshooting problems and making sure that the packages arrive on time. He'll do anything to do this, even steal a little kid's bicycle. He uses negative motivation to motivate the staff. He emphasised on one thing that is to be efficient and always be on time.

On the day after Christmas he’s called away on business, and during the overseas flight his company’s courier jet encounters a storm that first blows the plane off-course, then plan crash. Noland is the sole survivor, and he floats to an island. Noland picks up a couple of packages that followed him from the wreckage and starts surveying his new home.

Noland isn’t any smarter than we are: he knows no better way of making a fire than rubbing two sticks together, and only by accident does he discover that it’s easier to slice than beat a coconut open. Other packages from the plane that float ashore, he finds a use for most of their contents. A pair of ice-skates comes in particularly handy. He doesn’t have a life on the island—there’s nowhere to go, nothing to do—and for four long years he lives in a suspended state with only his desire to keep him company.

While his memories of Kelly (his Girl Friend) are essential to Chuck's survival, he also establishes an unusual relationship with "Wilson," a volleyball washed ashore inside a FedEx package from the doomed flight. Playing a crucial role, Wilson rescues Chuck from solitude as well as depression. This fellowship also allows Chuck to speak -- after an hour's worth of mostly silence.

Noland is person who is self motivated and he uses the resources to the fullest. He used all the stuff from the packages for survival. So one should be able to handle all the work and use the resources available. Even after staying on an island for four years he doesn’t give up and escapes from the island. During his escape he fights the rage of the sea and the solitude. He doesn’t give up till the time he parts away from the ball. That’s the only point in the movie when he gives up. Finally he is rescued by a ship passing by.

This movie is a GREAT to show how to survive in the wild. Starting a Fire by Friction, building rope, building a boat with natural items, keeping yourself focused and “sane”. In the end we can say that movie shows one to manage time, use of the resource to fullest and self motivation.

The Devil Wears Prada

Hi friends I am back with another movie review. This time I would like to tell you the Management lessons from the movie The Devil Wears Prada. This is a must watch movie for all fresher’s who want to make it big. The movie is about making right choices early in one’s career. This will make a lot of difference when he/she reach the top. Let me share with you few of the management lessons from the movie:
  • Work Life Balance
The movie shows that Andy gets the job which she is not able to co-op up with her personnel life. This can be seen from the fact that when she is doing well with her job her love life is in trouble. One has to properly prioritize between career and ambition on one hand, compared with pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development on the other.
  • Managing Your Boss
No one can depict what kind of boss he/she will get when they join the job. One has to change his/her attitude according to boss. The relationship with your boss is probably the most important relationship you have at work. Boss management can stimulate better performance; improve your working life, job satisfaction, and workload. Give your boss a hand and reap the rewards.
  • Be yourself
Always be yourself and don’t lie during interviews. Be confident about yourself and don’t bluff during interview. Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~Judy Garland
  • Work Attitude
You should always respect your job this is the kind of work attitude expected. The most important thing to do as you begin your new career is to define your attitude towards work.
  • Leadership Styles
The movie shows that the boss opinion is the final decision and nothing else matter. The point is that there are different leadership styles so one has to work accordingly. There are a number of different approaches, or 'styles' to leadership and management that are based on different assumptions and theories. The style that individuals use will be based on a combination of their beliefs, values and preferences, as well as the organizational culture and norms which will encourage some styles and discourage others.
  • Patience
From the movie we get the lesson that we should not get de-motivated after failure. The boss might try to increase work load for first few months just to check your patience. Be patient and the result will be fruitful.
Learn the art of patience. Apply discipline to your thoughts when they become anxious over the outcome of a goal. Impatience breeds anxiety, fear, discouragement and failure. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness, and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success. Brian Adams
  • Politics
You will always find politics in office at all the level. One has to take care all the time. Politics will always be a part of organizations so long as people are involved. So try to keep oneself away from the politics.
  • Loyalty and Commitment
By the end of the movie we get the lesson that we should be committed to our job and also loyal to our boss. The boss also should show workers some loyalty so staffers don't jump the company at regular interval.

The Pursuit of Happyness

The other day I was watching the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness". Wow, what a trip it was. The movie is based on the true story of Mr.Chris Gardner played by Will smith, who worked his way up from homeless father to millionaire stock broker. Everyone who has lost all hopes in life, here’s something that can help you.

You must be thinking why am I talking about a movie? This is because inspiration and motivation is very important for those who want to do something in their life, especially during the times economy has slowed down and people are losing hope. The movie has a number of great lessons to teach - determination, pursuing your dreams, overcoming difficulty and many more.

The movie begins showing Chris Gardner as a salesman of bone density scanners. Gardner had invested his family's savings into purchasing a stock of these devices, which he can in turn sell to his exclusive market of San Francisco area medical centres. But the doctors of the area think it to be expensive and unnecessary device. So it gets difficult for Gardner to sell the scanners. Despite of putting all his marketing skills he fails to sell the scanners. Fed up of an unsuccessful husband, his wife also leaves him. But his desire to give better life to his son and his son’s faith in him never let him lose his hope and he joins a six-week internship program at Dean Witter. In the end he gets selected, and today he runs his own stock broker firm.

No one knows when life will take a new turn. So better be prepared for everything and have confidence in yourself. Like in the movie at one point Chris Jr. and his father imagine that the scanner is a time machine, and Chris Sr. uses this as an opportunity to distract his son from their terrible circumstances. They pretend that they have travelled back to prehistoric times and must find save place from the dinosaurs. This way they spend the night in a subway station bathroom, one of the most touching scenes in the film and gives a great lesson of being positive in life and face every situation.

Whatever Gardner does in Pursuit is aimed at the welfare and betterment of his own child. Thus, he tells young Chris, “You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it.” So if you have a dream, don’t wait for anyone to come and fulfil it, just go and get it. Its only you who can fulfil your dreams, so have confidence in yourself...

Another worth mentioning thing about Gardner is his determination to do something in life in spite of facing so many hardships. He joined a six week internship program, which pays absolutely nothing to him. Six weeks-no pay. But who cares? Where there is a will, there is a way! He knew these six weeks could either make or break his life. So his destiny was in his hands and he chose to make it till his last breath.

Gardner got an opportunity to interview for the internship position. A night before the interview he was arrested by the police. Unfortunately, he was forced to stay overnight in jail and is not released until 9:30 the following morning 45 minutes prior to his interview for the internship. At this point in the movie he has no car, so he is forced to run to his interview and he arrives paint on his body and untidy and guess what he was selected. His one line made it for him it goes like this: one of the executives asks Gardner to put himself into the executive shoes and says, "What would you say to me if I told you I had decided to bring a guy into the intern program after he showed up to the interview wearing no shirt?" Gardner's response: "He must have had on some really nice pants."

The lesson we took from this illustration is to look beyond and focus on talent while hiring. Gardner was very good with numbers. The talent was critical for success in the position they were hiring for, so it was enough to get Gardner internship with the company despite not being well dressed. Yes, he still had to earn the position during the six-week internship.

Does this review excite you? I am sure YES. So go and watch it. It's a true story that will give you a new perspective on what determination can do for one's career.
